Creativity, individuality, and bold spirit are stitched into the DNA of the Dr. Martens brand. Artists who champion underrepresented voices and fight for progress have adopted the iconic boots for decades. Not without reason, though, these boots have been known for their quality, durability, versatility, and style for decades.. but THIS collaboration shines a spotlight on the boots as a canvas. Canvas for what, you might ask? A canvas for something larger and even more meaningful than style, a style with a style of its own: art!
Dr. Martens x Tate 🤝 Art
The Dr. Martens x Tate collaboration celebrates the work of provocative surrealist Ithell Colquhoun. Colquhoun, born in 1906, gained popularity in the 1930s as an artist who refused to conform or compromise. Her work is grounded in the occult and nature— and frequently explores sex and gender.
Often overlooked alongside the towering male figures of surrealism at this time, this collab between Dr. Martens and Tate celebrates her work. Specifically, it showcases two of her most expressive works: ‘Volcanic Flare’ and ‘Example of Decalcomania Technique’ © Tate.
