Journeys ATC Heads to Canada
Attitude That Cares Canada Activation

Journeys has always been committed to supporting people and our customers, especially young people! As noted in Core Value #12: Journeys is a Family with an Attitude that Cares, the Journeys ATC Program is dedicated to supporting and creating more opportunities for teens and youth.

Last month, the ATC team packed up their bags and hit the road to Canada! As our first international ATC activation, they were stoked to get there and get started with a bike build.

What’s a bike build?

We thought you’d never ask!

We work with nonprofit, Can’d Aid as close friends and partners. Can’d Aid’s main mission is to provide opportunities for underserved youth and emphasize art, music, and outdoor recreation. The team believes that expanding these creative outlets exposes students to more hobbies and cultivates the next generation of artists.

One way Can’d Aid makes this mission a reality is through skateboard and bicycle builds. In true “teamwork makes the dreamwork” fashion, volunteers open parts and assemble bikes for kids in these selected areas or school districts. From securing the handlebars to airing up the tires, volunteers have a hand in every part of the build. Once they’re finished, Can’d Aid gives the completed bikes to children in need.

Journeys has used this people power many times in the U.S. In fact, at the Journeys Annual Sales Meeting earlier this year, we built more than 1,200 bikes for students in Nashville, TN, Title I schools. This time, however, Journeys teamed up with our sister brand Little Burgundy for even more hands on deck! Journeys and Little Burgundy employees in the area got to work building bikes. In just one day, the team built 100 bikes to present to kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Dovercourt.

Journeys Community Outreach Specialist, Abbey Feenstra, attended on behalf of Journeys. She was particularly proud of the comradery between Journeys and Little Burgundy.

“My favorite part was the enthusiasm of all the managers that attended and how happy they were to build bikes for kids in need,” she says.

“The kids were so shocked and grateful when we presented them with the bikes. I was asked so many times if the bikes were theirs to keep forever and if I knew where the nearest park to ride bikes was.”

Being able to spread ATC love internationally was a huge goal of ours! Special shoutout to the ATC Team and all of the Little Burgundy employees who participated. This awesome display of friendship beyond borders and philanthropy is only the beginning! Be on the lookout for more ATC news and content and learn more about what we’re doing beyond the store here.
